The recent droughts in California have brought close to home an issue of global importance: water.
Without clean, fresh water, life comes to a screeching halt. For the past two years, Californians have had to get used to brown lawns, unwashed cars, and hasty showers just so they'll have enough water left to drink.
Building cars can be a very water-intensive process. Rain that falls over a factory parking lot filled with freshly made vehicles can run off into local water bodies carrying oil and other pollutants. In areas where water can be scarce, nobody wants a car company using up massive amounts of a resource vital to human life -- including the car companies.
Many brands across the industry have been working to mitigate their environmental impact, and their impact on local communities where their plants are located. Only two, however, received recognition by the CDP in 2015.
Ford reduced its water use by 62 percent from 2000 to 2014, and Toyota engages in a host of water mitigation practices, including capturing and filtering run-off from factories.
Fortunately, when you buy a used car from Philpott Pre-Owned Super Center, you are already doing your part to help the environment. A used car doesn't require any water, or new resources to make, since it has already been manufactured. The longer you keep your vehicle on the road with good service and maintenance practices, the greater the benefit.
