You would be nervous about letting go of the wheel and letting your autonomous car drive you around. It's okay, three out of four Americans would be.
Even though traffic accidents are frighteningly common and almost always caused by driver error, most of us would rather be responsible for our own driving mistakes than risk a computer glitch sending us sprawling into a ditch... even if we are more likely to make a mistake than the computer is.
While 75 percent of drivers say they would be afraid to give complete control to the car, that statistic is nearly flipped when you make the technology "semi" autonomous.
Semi-autonomous features include lane-keeping assistance, self-parking, pothole mitigation, and most significantly, automatic emergency braking (AEB).
Sometimes called "active safety," these features have dramatically increased in popularity over the past several years, and you'll see AEB in many of our used cars in Nederland, TX. Over 60 percent of drivers say they want features like AEB on their next vehicle, citing safety, convenience, and reduced stress as key reasons.
