You're getting ready to go on your first big ATV trip with your friends, but you've got one embarrassing secret... you have no idea how to load an ATV into a truck.

It's okay. We won't tell anybody. Check out this video, and read the summary below, and people will think you've been doing it for years.

  1. Make sure you have ATV ramps rated for the weight you will be applying to them -- that's your weight plus the curb weight of your ATV and any cargo.
  2. Line up the ATV behind the open tailgate, and place the ramps so they're centered with the ATV's wheels.
  3. Secure the ramps so they don't fly out from under you. Attach straps from the bottom side of the ramp to the safety chain hookup.
  4. Load up the ATV. Wear your helmet, shift into 4LO, and ride up the ramps into the truck bed. If you've followed steps 1-3, this should all go smooth as butter. If you have not, we hope you are at least wearing that helmet.
  5. Park.
  6. Use high-quality straps to tie down. Be sure to compress the suspension with ratcheting straps, or by having a friend sit on the ATV while you tie.
