Bikes and drivers can safely share the road if both parties exercise the proper safety precautions. It is important for you to stay out of the bike lanes when you are driving. You should also allow the bikes to have plenty of space. Many states require that you stay at least three feet away from bikes when you are driving. Yield to bikers if possible. Give them a signal to let them know that it is okay to pass them.

If you have to pass a cyclist, then you should do so with caution. Drive slower than you normally would while you are passing. Make sure that you check your blind spots and mirror while you are turning. Additionally, check your surroundings before you get out of the car in order to avoid hitting a cyclist with a door.
