When a car’s battery dies or fails to engage, jump starting it can get the driver back on the road. Jump starting a car means connecting jumper cables from your car’s active battery to the dead one. Here’s how to do it easily:
Red Clips: Attach one end to the dead battery's positive terminal, and the other to the working car battery's positive terminal.
Black Clips: Attach one black clip to the negative terminal on the good battery and the other black clip to a piece of unpainted metal not directly next to the dead battery. A nearby bolt will work well. Now, start the working car’s engine. Let it idle for one to two minutes. Then, turn in the other car, and wait for it to charge for up to two minutes.
Remove cables once the car is running again. The driver should now be able to drive and keep the car running for at least 30 minutes to help the battery recover.
