If you are considering buying a hatchback, here at Philpott Pre-Owned Super Center, we can give you several reasons that you might prefer this style of vehicle. Some people assume that there is simply less room in a hatchback than a typical sedan car, but a hatchback can be spacious. You also have the option of creating space by folding down seats.

On the other hand, even though you may have just as much space, your exterior is smaller, meaning you can maneuver more easily, including into small parking spaces around Nederland. Many people also like the small sporty look…

If your car was built in the last 100 years or so, chances are that it has some sort of accessory that runs on electrical power. While older vehicles had their own ways of getting power, modern vehicles at Philpott Pre-Owned Super Center all use an important component called the alternator. Understanding what this component does will give you a much bigger view of its importance.

The alternator in a car works just like a generator because that's exactly what it is. Instead of being powered by steam or moving water, though, your car's alternator is powered by…

Once you turn the key in the ignition, your car should start up right away. While it "should," it might not. Sometimes, the ignition might be slow or, worse, doesn't start at all. To avoid the latter, be on the lookout for signs the ignition isn't working the way it should.

Do the dashboard lights flicker when you turn the ignition? Does the engine sputter or the starter make an odd sound? Sometimes, the starter could make odd sounds. Such problems won't likely improve on their own and might become dramatically worse. Getting the vehicle checked out…

Philpott Pre-Owned Super Center believes that every car owner in Nederland should have a basic understanding of the parts on their vehicle. Gaskets perform an important job that you may take for granted. These vital parts allow tight seals to prevent the loss of lubricants or coolant. Vehicles have many types of gaskets, and they are used on critical components like your engine.

A gasket is typically made of stainless steel or pliable rubber. When placed between two connecting parts of an automobile, gaskets help to create a tight seal.

Getting a flat tire can feel like the end of the world, especially the first time, but, with a few instructions in hand, you can change a flat tire in no time.

The first instruction would be to find shelter from traffic. You're going to be outside of your car, on the ground, so you want to be away from any car that might not spot you out on the road. Next, you want to place a jack under the car and lift the car approximately 12 inches from its original spot. This will give you a better angle…

Virtually every driver knows that to keep your vehicle looking like new, you have to periodically maintain the exterior. That means occasionally applying a coating of car wax to the exterior. What exactly is car wax and how does it work?

Car wax is all about protection. Essentially, it's a hydrocarbon that forms a hard substance at room temperature. Car waxes can be made of natural materials, such as carnauba or palm oils, or synthetic waxes formulated from silicones. All wax formulations form a layer over your vehicles paint to protect it from the elements.

Changing a flat tire in optimal weather conditions is actually something that doesn't take very long. If you would rather try to change your flat yourself instead of waiting for roadside assistance, here are Philpott Pre-Owned Super Center's tips to get this done quickly.

Always park your vehicle safely away from traffic on the side of the road and on a flat surface.

Take the hub cap off completely, storing it somewhere safe for the time being.

Loosen, but don't remove, the lug nuts on the flat tire.

Philpott Pre-Owned Super Center believes that all drivers in Nederland should be informed when it comes to basic car parts. Gaskets are used on all cars and trucks today, and they serve a very important purpose. Here is a closer look at these vital vehicle parts.

Did you know that a car or truck can have 100 or more gaskets? It is easy to overlook gaskets because they are unseen. Gaskets are small pieces of molded material that are used to prevent leaks of fluid or lubricant. They are placed between a stationary and a moving part on a car…

Here are the reasons why.

Over-inflation

When putting air in your tires, you may add more than what they need. This can be dangerous because it causes them to be too firm and inflexible. As you drive, they will be affected by every defect or debris…
